Teachers and students of the Baku branch of Moscow State University named after M. Lomonosov got acquainted with the activity of “Tamiz Shahar” JSC.
Tours to Baku Waste to Energy Plant, Balakhani Material Recovery Facility, as well as to Balakhani Industrial Park and “From Waste to Art” museum located in Gala settlement were arranged for visitors.
It was noted that a part of the municipal solid waste collected in Baku is delivered to Balakhani Material Recovery Facility. Metals, glass, plastic, paper and other recyclable materials are segregated from general waste and sent to the Balakhani Industrial Park and other recycling industries as raw materials.
After getting acquainted with Balakhani Industrial Park, visitors also got familiar with the work done for the development of the non-oil industry, industrial parks and favorable conditions made for entrepreneurs and investors in our country. It was emphasized that Balakhani Industrial Park which covers 7 ha of the area mainly involves recycling enterprises. Today, 23 million AZN was invested for used motor oil, PET bottles, paper and cardboard products, waste plastic materials, sponge waste in the Balakhani Industrial Park by 5 registered residents and about 400 permanent workplaces were opened in the first stage.
Visitors were introduced to the activities of the Baku Waste to Energy Plant as well. They were informed that the annual capacity of the plant is 500 thousand tons of municipal solid waste, 10 thousand tons of medical waste and it can reproduce 231 million kWh electricity per year. It is possible to cover the energy requirement of a city of 300 thousand residents with annually produced electricity of the plant.
Teachers and students visited the “From Waste to Art” Museum and were informed that the museum was established with the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in 2015. Artworks were prepared from waste by local and 140 foreign artists from 36 countries who participated in the International “From Waste to Art” exhibition over 6 years. Artists proved by these artworks that it is possible to protect the environment, to save money, at the same time to get spiritual pleasure by giving the second life to waste.
“Tamiz Shahar” JSC regularly holds public awareness projects and campaigns in order to support the development of waste management in our country. And study tours to plants are one part of these campaigns.
