Five more residents will start operating at Balakhani Industrial Park

“Tamiz Shahar” JSC held the information tour and press conference with the participation of mass media representatives. Media representatives were informed about the activities of the Joint Stock Company and its implemented projects.

Mass media representatives got acquainted with Boyukshor lake and Boyukshor promenade boulevard built near Olimpic Stadium. The Chairman of the Executive Board of “Tamiz Shahar” JSC Etibar Abbasov gave detailed information about the activities in the rehabilitation of Boyukshor lake. It was noted that 300 hectares of the area were cleaned in the first phase of the rehabilitation project and the oil-polluted sediments were removed, Boyukshor Park and Boulevard of 15 hectares are open for Baku residents.

Mass media representatives also familiarized themselves with  Balakhani Municipal Waste Utilization Landfill. It was noted that the landfill complies with all sanitary norms. Vehicles carrying waste to the landfill are washed and absolutely disinfected prior to leaving the area after discharging waste. The station with 4 cabins has been set up in accordance with international standards and has the capacity to serve over 400 vehicles per day. The activities on landfill reconstruction were carried out within the framework of the Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Project implemented by the Ministry of Economy and the World Bank. Wastewater is turned into technical water through the filters and is used for irrigation of trees at the landfill (11,000 trees have been planted so far). Gas collected from waste is converted to electricity by special generators and this energy is used for the needs of landfills.

Within the framework of the information tour, media representatives also visited  Balakhani Material Recovery Facility. It was reported that the plant was built in 2012 with German technology and it has an annual capacity of 200,000 tons of waste sorting. Waste is sent to recycling companies after the sorting process.

It was noted that more than 900 different types of documents (identity card, driving license, diploma, military identity card, etc.) found as the result of the sorting process were handed over to “Azerpoçt” LLC within the framework of the “Postal” project. More than 400 kilograms of coins collected through the magnetic separator were used by “Tamiz Shahar” OJSC for charity campaigns.

More than 170 Balakhani residents are provided with permanent workplaces at the Plant.

Besides, the virtual tour was organized for journalists to the “Waste to Art” museum in Gala settlement. It was reported that about 140 artists from 36 countries participating in the “Waste to Art” exhibition for 6 years exhibit their artworks in this museum which was established at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

Journalists also got acquainted with Balakhani Industrial Park covering 7 ha of the area which was established to improve the “green economy” in the country. Five residents operate on recycling of used motor oils, waste plastic bottles, paper-cardboard items, waste plastic materials, sponge wastes in Balakhani Industrial Park, where favorable conditions have been created for entrepreneurs interested in recycling. 6 more residents registered in the production field will start operating this year.

Mass media representatives visiting Baku Waste To Energy Plant were informed that the plant was built with 4th generation technology and has an annual capacity to incinerate 500 thousand tons of municipal waste and 10 thousand tons of medical waste and to reproduce 231 million kilowatt-hours electric power per year. Furthermore, fly ashes were used in the reconstruction of roads covering 43 thousand m² as the result of the incineration of wastes in the Balakhani settlement in December of last year.

Then a press conference dealing with the activities of the Company was held. During the event, a short film about the “Tamiz Gala” pilot project was demonstrated. It was mentioned that within the project operating since 2010, wastes are gathered in two boxes with different colors, one of them aimed for organic (i.e kitchen) and the other for non-organic (i.e other) wastes. Different booklets are distributed to residents of the settlement in order to enlighten them on the field of waste sorting.
