Delegations of International Monetary Fund and Peynesville city of Liberia visited “Tamiz Shahar” JSC

Delegations led by Natalya Tamirisan, Head of the International Monetary Fund’s mission in Azerbaijan and Pem Belcher-Teylor, the mayor of Peynesville city in Liberia, visited the Tamiz Shahar JSC to get familiar with Azerbaijan’s waste management experience.
Deputy Minister of Economy, Sahib Mammadov informed the guests about the work done in the field of waste management in Azerbaijan. It was noted that the Baku Solid Waste Burning Plant, which meets modern environmental requirements, was built with the 4th generation technology. The enterprise has the capacity to produce 500,000 tons of solid household waste, 10,000 tons of medical waste and 231 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. It is possible to provide electricity to the population of 300,000 people each year with the energy generated by the plant.
The guests also got acquainted with Balakhany solid waste disposal site. It was indicated that the reconstruction of the polygon, which meets all sanitary norms, was carried out within the framework of the “Integrated Solid Waste Management Project” implemented jointly by the Ministry of Economy and the World Bank. Here, wastewater from waste is filtered through filters into technical water and is used for irrigation of more than 11,000 trees planted in the area. Waste gases are converted into electricity through special generators and are used for domestic needs of landfill.
The guests familiarized themselves with the Balakhany Solid Waste Sorting Plant were informed that the facility built by German technology has a capacity of sorting 200,000 tons of waste per year. Wastes that separated into plastic, PET, paper, cellulose, glass and so on. materials are sent to recycling facilities.
The delegation also visited the Balakhany Industrial Park, which was established to develop the “green economy” in our country. The guests were informed that 8 out of 17 residents, which are registered in the Balakhany Industrial Park in 2017 already operates and the investment cost of the projects amount to 41,5 million Azerbaijani manat. Taking into account the interest of entrepreneurs, the territory of Balakhany Industrial Park has been expanded to 8.3 hectares. At present, about 400 employees are employed at enterprises and the number of employees is expected to reach 680 due to the implementation of new projects.
The guests highly valued the activity of “Tamiz Shahar” JSC and the work of factories. A delegation led by the mayor of Peynesville city emphasized the importance of implementing Azerbaijan’s experience in waste management in Liberia.
