The President of Azerbaijan Attended the Foundation-laying Ceremony of Solid Waste Incineration Plant

On December 17, 2009 a meeting was arranged with the participation of non-governmental organizations at the administrative building of “Tamiz Shahar” JSC on management of polygon of disposition and neutralization of solid household waste. Representatives of mass media also took place at the meeting upon the invitation of NGOs.
The main goal of the meeting was to inform NGOs about the works done and to be done on disposition and neutralization of Balakhani urban household wastes landfill by “Tamiz Shahar” JSC.
Representative of “Centre for Social Research” NGO A.Aliyev, “Echosphere” NGO F.Sultanzade, “Development Center” NGO N.Aghayev, “National Environmental Forecasts Center” NGO T.Zeynalov, “Business Time” Journal K.Rahimova, I.Zeynalov, “Nedelya” Newspaper L.Mustafayev and “Expert” Journal R.Shalbuzov were among the participants of this meeting.
Chairman of the Management Board of the Company Mr. Zakir Ibrahimov made an opening remarkss and provided a brief information on the works done at the Balakhani landfill starting from the date of its submission to the disposition of “Tamiz Shahar” JSC up to date. Thereafter, some questions regarding the Balakhani landfill and establishment of the solid household waste incinerator plant were replied.
Then, the guests were shown a video reel and photos on the previous condition of the Balakhani landfill (smoky, polluted mountains). Each guest was presented a CD containing the video reel and photos about the Balakhani landfill.
Upon the discussions held at the administrative building of the Company, a visit was organized for the meeting participants to the Balakhani landfill.
The Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of the Company Mr. Etibar Abbasov met the guests and gave brief information about the works done. The participants were provided with the information on measures taken with regard to removal of fumigation, laying of inter-landfill roads, establishment of intake area for new wastes, site leveling and grounding of the area, creation of special selection area, creation of mobile offices, creation of security system, strict registration of incoming vehicles and the volume of wastes, provision of the employees with dressing and equipments consistent with the requirements of workplace safety rules, milk, sour-milk and meal, employ the unemployed and refugees residing near the landfill and improvement of the environmental condition.
The participants visually observed the receipt, unloading and selection processes of wastes from the beginning till the end and expressed their positive thoughts by comparing with the previous condition. As a striking example of non-existence of smoke the participants noted that the urban part of the lake (Darnaghul highway and micro-districts) was clearly seen, as the smoke gone out. At the same time, the guests gave their advices on the work of the landfill.
