Improvement of Solid Municipal Waste Management in “Icheri Sheher” will be Implemented jointly with “Tamiz Shahar” JSC

Since February of the current year it is planned to begin the implementation of measures for sorting of wastes for the purpose of effective management of solid municipal wastes in the territory of “Icheri Sheher” State Historical Architectural Preserve Department with the support of “Tamiz Shahar” JSC.
Ensuring a cleanness of “Icheri Sheher” (“The Old City”) as the territory included on the World Heritage List will be realized by stages during 2010 – “Year of Ecology”.
Within the frame of complex plan of measures prepared by “Tamiz Shahar” JSC it is envisaged to raise public awareness among the population of Icheri Sheher, organizations carrying out their activities herein and guests visiting the preserve. Holding of public actions and distribution of various promotional materials for awareness raising will aim to increase the knowledge of population regarding the solid municipal wastes. At the same time, sorting of organic and non-organic wastes will be initiated in the first stage. To this effect, it is envisaged to place special colour containers designed for separation of wastes in the territory of the preserve, distribution of two-section waste bins and different colour waste bags to the population.
The next stage is planned to begin in the second half of 2010. In this stage a comprehensive program for public awareness raising will be implemented again among the population for complete sorting of materials on non-organic wastes suitable for recycling and appropriate containers will be mounted on the territory.
As a result, the measures for complete sorting of solid municipal wastes generating in the territory of Preserve will be accomplished by the end of the current year.
