Illegal dumpsite near Binagadi Trade Centre is being cancelled

Within the framework of the project “Integrated Solid Waste Management” realized by the Ministry of Economic Development and World Bank, 41 illegal dumpsites each with area more than 200 m2 in 8 districts of Baku (Surakhani, Sabail, Sabunchu, Binagadi, Yasamal, Khazar, Khatai, and Garadagh) were found out by the specialists of the international consultancy company involved in the project and “Tamiz Shahar” JSC. According to the calculations, there is more than 450 thousand tons of waste in these dumpsites that surround approximately 160 ha area.

From August of this year preparation works related to cancellation of illegal dumpsites were realized, dumpsites were surveyed, a proper Action Plan was issued.

“Tamiz Shahar” JSC has already begun to transport waste to Balakhani municipal solid waste utilization landfill in order to cancel and utilize illegal dumpsites. As a result of cleaning illegal dumpsites in Garadagh, Khazar, Binagadi, Sabunchu, Sabail districts transportation of 200 thousand tons of waste to Balakhani landfill was provided. During waste transportation special attention is given to compliance with health, safety and environmental standards.

Currently works are realized to cancel illegal dumpsites near Bina Trading Centre.

Proper measures are taken with the purpose of preventing cleaned areas from becoming illegal dumpsites again within the framework of “Integrated Solid Waste Management”.
