29 Illegal dumpsites have been cleaned from waste

Within the framework of the project “Integrated Solid Waste Management” realized by the Ministry of Economic Development and World Bank, 29 illegal dumpsites in 7 districts of Baku (Surakhani, Sabunchu, Binagadi, Yasamal, Khazar, Khatai, and Garadagh) and in the area at command of SOCAR were cleaned from waste and and more than 420 thousand tonnes of waste was transported to Balakhani landfill. Currently the process of cleaning two such dumpsites in Sabunchu is ongoing. It is planned to clean 4 more dumpsite in the nearest future.
It should be noted that within the framework of the project “Integrated Solid Waste Management” realized by the Ministry of Economic Development and World Bank, 41 illegal dumpsites each with area more than 200 m2 in 8 districts of Baku (Surakhani, Sabail, Sabunchu, Binagadi, Yasamal, Khazar, Khatai, and Garadagh) were found out by the specialists of the international consultancy company involved in the project and “Tamiz Shahar” JSC. According to the calculations, there is more than 450 thousand tons of waste in these dumpsites that surround approximately 160 ha area.
From August of last year preparation works related to cancellation of illegal dumpsites were realized, dumpsites were surveyed, a proper Action Plan was issued.
Proper measures are taken with the purpose of preventing cleaned areas from becoming illegal dumpsites again within the framework of “Integrated Solid Waste Management”.
