Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva visited the museum. This exhibition was organized by “Tamiz Shahar” JSC with the initiative of The Heydar Aliyev Foundation and with the support of IDEA Campaign, State Historical and Architectural Reserve “Icherisheher” and “Q Gallery”. 25 artists from 8 countries demonstrated their artworks prepared from municipal waste and useless materials. During 5 years totally more than 80 artists from 30 countries took part in this annual exhibition. The goal of the exhibition is to promote the importance of public cleanliness and to prevent people from discarding every useless material. Those useless materials “came to life” in the hands of artists.

One of the artworks was “Karabakh horse-pegasus” by Mammad Rashidov from Azerbaijan. Karabakh horse is an embodiment of generosity, self-sacrifice and courage. According to the description of the artwork, the victory of justice in the resolution of complicated questions always need some time. Mythical pegasus has always been a symbol of strength and speediness like time. The unity of these two concepts persuades us in the victory of justice one day.

The composition by Tatiana Gomza presents a fun family of three giant cats. Cats are standing with their paws-hands, outstretched to the sides in a wide gesture of welcome and friendliness. In spite of the apparent rigidity of their metal skeletons, they have soft-paw cozy boots. Every visitor, a child or an adult, will be able to try on them and to stay “in the soft paws” in the company with our sociable cats. And may be, after such a close contact with this positive art-object, the idea of a creative disposal of waste will seem more near and accessible to our spectators.

The plastic pollution plaguing our world’s oceans was the catalyst for the art piece by Ingrid Goldbloom (USA). The background depicts the mathematical modeling describing how debris converges into a giant trash vortex.  The recycled eyeglass lenses embody both the plastic ocean pollution and act as “windows” to view the greater problem of improper waste disposal.

The sculpture by Catarina Monteiro (Portugal) named “Home street home” represents a traditional street cat, that lives into the trash can, surrounded by rats and fish bones. But that can is also full of gold and gems as a pirate treasure. As concept the piece explores the idea that the garbage from ones can be the treasure to others.

The goal of the artwork prepared by Russian artists Vladimir and Nina is to implement an important law of nature, “the cycle of substance” in people’s minds, that is, to turn waste back into valuable and useful product.

The other artworks by Alexandr Falei (Belarus), Erkin Alekberli (Azerbaijan), Habib Saher (Iran), Jennifer Maestre (USA), Shamil Guliyev (Kazakhstan), Soso Chkhaidze (Georgia), Zakaria Zakarev (Russia), Martins Sprogis (Latvia), Pandora Apostoloska Sazdovska (Macedonia) and other artists prove once again that arts is a manifestation of human life importance and transformation of chaos to beauty.

On the occasion of 5th anniversary of “From Waste to Art” Exhibition short film was presented by “Tamiz Shahar” JSC.

Today, waste is used as a raw material for recycling industry. As well as, electricity is produced in the process of waste incineration. And “From Waste to Art” Exhibition proves that waste is not a mass of useless materials, even it can be transformed into art pieces.

It should be mentioned that “From Waste to Art” Exhibition has been held since 2010 with the initiative of Heydar Aliyev Foundation in the framework of “Tamiz Gala” pilot project by “Tamiz Shahar” JSC. According to the project waste management of the settlement is carried out with modern methods. And also, “From Waste to Art” museum was launched in Gala settlement in 2015.

The exhibition will be open to the public till the 12th of October. Transportation is provided for visitors during 3 days starting from the 3rd of October. Pick up time is 12:00 with pick up location of “Icherishahar Gosha Gala”.
