EBRD president visited Waste To Energy Plant

During the visit to Azerbaijan delegation staff under leadership of President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti got acquainted with the activities of Waste To Energy Plant.
The Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev informed the delegation that the plant was built with 4th generation technology meeting the strict environmental requirements. Annual capacity of the plant is 500 thousand tons of municipal solid waste, 10 thousand tons of medical waste and it can reproduce 231 million kWh electricity per year. It is possible to cover the energy requirement of a city of 300 thousand residents with annually produced electricity of the plant.
Guests who were acquainted with Boyukshor lake were informed that 300 hectares of land were cleaned and ecologically restored in the first phase of the rehabilitation project, and Boyukshor Park and Promenade were constructed and brought into use of Baku residents in about 15 hectares of area.
The guests also got acquainted with Balakhani Municipal Waste Utilization Landfill. It was noted that the landfill complies with all sanitary norms. The landfill reconstruction was carried out within the framework of the “Integrated Solid Waste Management” project implemented by the Ministry of Economy and the World Bank.
EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti expressed his satisfaction on the work done in our country in the field of municipal waste management and stressed that EBRD is interested in cooperating with Azerbaijan in this sphere.
